The Unveiled Wife

I started reading Jennifer's blog a few years ago, and was immediately struck by her vulnerability and commitment to transparency when it came to her struggles with her husband. When she asked me to review her new book, The Unveiled Wife I was delighted and honoured.

I was also terrified.

The Lord has been speaking to me for some time now about sharing about mine and Chris' intimate relationship. I have considered writing one post, or possibly a series of posts (because the Lord knows I have a lot to say on the subject!!) I have spoken to our church's youth group on more than one occasion, as well as to our mom's group on sex. I have also had countless conversations with fellow wives, and each and every time there is at least one "Yes! Me too!" moment. I wish more women talked about it so perhaps there wouldn't be this illusion that we are all alone in our struggles. When Jennifer asked me to review her book and be a part of her blog tour I knew this was just one more nudge from God, asking me to step out in obedience.

And so this post will be the first of a series of posts about sex. Considered yourself warned, Dad.

Jennifer's book is not just about sex, but so much more. She reveals a lot of very personal struggles that her and her husband walked through, but in the end what needed transformation was her relationship with God. I enjoyed reading her book so much. I knew bits and pieces of her story from what I had read on her blog, but it was such a joy to read her entire story in detail. I'm a bit of a sucker for a good love story, and so even just reading about her and Aaron's courtship was really enjoyable to me. I don't want to give away too much, but I will say that there were parts where I earnestly laughed out loud, as well as a very important moment in their marriage relationship where I completely broke down sobbing.

Jennifer points the reader back to the one who restores and repairs all brokenness time and time again. Her very difficult struggles with intimacy and complete and total honesty about her thoughts through it all are admirable. I would absolutely recommend this book to any wife or engaged woman. I believe this book will impact a lot of women's hearts and marriages and that it will bring glory to God.
